Some time ago Pacific Horizon engaged Mark Perratt and the Tanglin Consultancy/SortIT to develop a new system which would provide the cornerstone of our rental operations. Whilst the brief was ever changing, the one constant was the demand for a system that would be faster and smarter than anything else we were aware of. It had to operate in real-time, 24 hours a day, and with no need for close monitoring or manual interference.
‘SORTIT’ was delivered last year and has now been running for over 18 months. The result has been dramatic. ‘SORTIT’ can do in an instant what was previously done manually and at great cost. It has allowed us to redeploy staff to other areas of the business, allows us to accept hires from anywhere in the world at any time of day and night, providing an instant confirmation. We have been able to use this technology to expand our worldwide distribution through partnering IT savvy businesses that demand such functionality. We have also seen incremental business gains from current business partners who use utilise the system.
The benefits of ‘SORTIT’ to our business have been clear to see. But what is really exciting from my point of view is both the fleet scheduling ability of the system and the possibilities for future development. As with all rental companies, it is imperative we use the least number of vehicles for the most number of hires. Not only does this allow us to reduce costs but also provides greater potential for revenue generation by being able to accept more business. In this regard, I would state this system is unparalleled. It can look forward and see a picture no-one else can, schedule relocations and hires across multiple locations, allowing us to get on with the job of taking more hires. Further, I believe we are not yet using ‘SORTIT’ to its full potential and can see further developments only increasing the benefit to our business.
The success of this system is very much down the intimate understanding Mark has of our business and our operations. It is obvious there is an appreciation of our goals and the work completed has helped us realise them. We are thankful for both the end result and for the collaborative approach taken to get there.
